Lion Red's history dates back to 1907 when Lion Red was originally known as Lion Beer, but became referred to by the public, as Lion Red, due to the red coloured label and the red can. The name was officially changed to Lion Red in the mid 1980's.

This leading beer dominates today's beer market. As it is New Zealand's most popular and largest selling beer it has become part of New Zealand culture, enjoyed with sport, and the classic kiwi pastimes, barbecues and hanging out with mates.

Lion Red's rich copper hue announces a full flavoured, malty beer that is balanced with a pleasant hop bitterness, which appeals to all lovers of fine beer. It is brewed using high quality malt and the finest New Zealand hops to produce New Zealand's most favourite beer.

Lion Red is all about socialising, being lively and outgoing, having a passion for living the moment and being able to enjoy a kiwi classic with your mates in front of the big game, or whilst out enjoying life. Lion Red expresses an 'Up for It' attitude to life, and makes a youthful, bold and energetic statement.

Being New Zealand's most popular beer, Lion Red has a large sponsorship portfolio. Lion Red sponsors national rugby and league teams as well as nationwide clubs and competitions. Two of its other large sponsorship properties are fishing and New Zealand surfing. Lion Red also supports the New Zealand music scene, having developed a collection of bars to make up a nationwide touring circuit, that hosts some of New Zealand's finest up and coming bands.
